Starting Monday, March 31, the Jasper County Assessor’s Office began sending out property reassessment notices that indicate your new assessed value for 2025 compared to 2024.
As a resident, here is what you need to know.
- These notices contain updated property values by the Jasper County Assessor as part of the biennial reassessment process under Iowa Law.
- The values indicate changes that have occurred in our real estate market since 2023.
- Remember that the assessment does not equal the taxable value. Your assessment does not factor in the rollback, which reduces the taxable valuation when applied.
- Rollback restricts the annual statewide increase in taxable residential property value to a maximum of 3%. (If statewide assessments exceed this cap, a rollback percentage is applied to lower each property’s taxable value, thereby reducing the effect of revaluations on property tax bills).
- Cities do not assess your property. The Jasper County Assessor’s Office does this.
What do residents need to know as the city finalizes its budget?
- The 2025 assessments will not affect current property taxes (FY 2025) or next year’s (FY 2026) property taxes.
- The City of Baxter will adopt its FY 2026 budget on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m. during the City Council meeting.
- The taxes based on these new assessments will be for the FY 2027 budget, payable in September 2026 and March 2027.
Don’t agree with your assessment?
- The notice includes options to appeal and must be filed with the Assessor’s Office between Wednesday, April 2 – Friday, April 25.
- Residents can also submit a formal protest to the Jasper County Board of Review between Wednesday, April 2 – Wednesday, April 30.
